Vinyl-a-Day 52: The Supremes - “Where Did Our Love Go” (Motown, 1964)

The second album from The Supremes where they arrived as a viable commercial act, ushering in the “Motown Sound.” After their first album failed to chart in the US, if Diana Ross, Florence Ballard, and Mary Wilson had something to prove, they did so with this pop-soul, R&B, doo-wop chart-topper. The album features their smash-hits “Baby Love,” “Come See About Me” and “Where Did Our Love Go,” all of which have endured to this day. Not only that, this record made history as it was the first to contain a whopping three number one hits, not to mention by an all-girl group. There’s no filler on this album though as it also contains the number 23 hit “When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes" as well as "A Breathtaking Guy" and "Run, Run, Run”, both of which cracked the Hot 100.
